Just Transition Indonesia recognizes that in Indonesia, where societal norms often prioritize male leadership, women entrepreneurs face unique challenges in the climate and clean energy sectors. These challenges include limited access to finance, support networks, and investment opportunities, further exacerbated by geographical disparities, such as limited access to resources and training programs for women in rural areas. Our Director and Founder, Aidy Halimanjaya, Ph.D., took this as an opportunity to zoom in on the issue, which aligns with out vision to promote gender equality and social inclusion in the transition to sustainable energy. This initiative investigates the specific barriers faced by women-led businesses and start-ups, particularly those located outside Jakarta, and contribute to a more inclusive approach to climate action.

The initiative is exploring the investment landscape for women entrepreneurs in Indonesia's climate sector and developing a comprehensive assessment of the current situation. It uncovers key challenges faced by these entrepreneurs, particularly in accessing finance and formal investment. Gaps in existing support systems is assessed to understand how they can better serve the needs of women-led businesses. The findings inform policies and frameworks to enhance financial inclusion and unlock the growth potential of women-led businesses, contributing to a more gender-responsive climate strategy in Indonesia.

The initiative focuses on the financial, regulatory, and social challenges these businesses face, offering recommendations to enhance support systems and access to finance. The work aims to improve existing frameworks and foster a more equitable investment landscape for women in Indonesia’s climate and clean energy sectors. Ultimately, this work aims to empower women entrepreneurs to become driving forces in Indonesia's transition to a sustainable and equitable energy future.
